On 22 October 2024, the Regimental Centre The Gemunu Watch held a poignant farewell ceremony for Major General Senaka Kasturimudali RSP ndc psc, who is retiring after an illustrious career spanning over 35 years in the Sri Lanka Army. The event, hosted at the Regimental Centre, honored his exceptional service and significant contributions to the nation.
Major General Kasturimudali began his military career as an officer cadet of Intake 32, joining the Sri Lanka Army on 14 July 1989. He was commissioned on 19 January 1991 and subsequently took on his first posting with the 6th Battalion of the Gemunu Watch. Throughout his distinguished career, Major General Kasturimudali excelled in numerous command and staff positions, consistently demonstrating unwavering dedication and exemplary leadership.
The farewell ceremony commenced with the Centre Commandant, Brigadier HCL Galappathti RSP USP, extending a warm welcome to the Chief Guest. The Chief Guest was then led in a review of the Guard turnout at the main entrance, followed by a formal salute from an impressive guard of honor at the parade square. The ceremony included a ceremonial commemoration at the monument dedicated to fallen war heroes and concluded with a group photograph to mark the occasion.
At evening hours, Major General Kasturimudali was graciously invited to a dinner hosted by the Regimental Centre in his honor, organized by the Colonel of the Regiment, Major General SWB Welagedara RSP VSV USP ndc. During this gathering, the Colonel of the Regiment delivered a heartfelt farewell speech on behalf of the officers of the Gemunu Watch, reflecting on Major General Kasturimudali’s significant achievements and milestones. He shared cherished memories and acknowledged the invaluable support of his family, particularly highlighting the contributions of his spouse to the Gemunu Watch Seva Vanitha Branch.
The event concluded with all officers and all ranks at the Regimental Centre expressing their heartfelt gratitude to the retiring Highlander, wishing him a healthy, prosperous, and fulfilling future. Major General Senaka Kasturimudali’s legacy will undoubtedly continue to inspire both current and future generations of the Sri Lanka Army.
