In a significant demonstration of military tradition and camaraderie, the Gemunu Watch Regiment held a Felicitation Ceremony honoring the recent promotions of Major General H C L Galappathiti RSP USP, Major General M M Salawatura (Rtd) RWP RSP USP, and Major General K J M N P K Nawarathna RWP RSP ndu. This prestigious event was conducted under the guidance of Major General W B J K Wimalaratne RWP RSP, Director General Infantry and Colonel of the Regiment, reinforcing the values of respect and recognition within the military community.
The ceremony commenced with a warm welcome extended by Colonel TMKC Amarakoon USP, the Deputy Centre Commandant and greeted the honored Major Generals on behalf of all ranks of the Gemunu Watch. The newly promoted Major Generals were then treated with a ceremonial 'Guard Turnout', a traditional military display showcasing the regiment’s discipline and pride.Then, the officers offered floral tributes to the fallen heroes of the Gemunu Watch, acknowledging the ultimate sacrifice made by those who served the nation. This solemn tribute highlighted the regiment’s enduring spirit and commitment to honoring their legacy.
Following the floral tributes, the Major Generals were presented with a 'Guard of Honour' at the Parade Square, a ceremonial recognition of their achievements and new ranks. The traditional military rites executed during this segment underscored the respect accorded to senior officers within the armed forces.
The highlight of the day was a special dinner hosted by the officers in the officers' mess, intended to celebrate the new Major Generals. This gathering brought together members of the Regimental Council, Senior Officers, Staff Officers, and Commanding Officers, creating a warm and supportive environment that emphasized unity and shared purpose within the regiment.
The ceremony was a testament to the camaraderie and respect that defines the Gemunu Watch Regiment, celebrating not only individual achievements but also the rich traditions that bind military personnel together in service to the country.
