The 1st Battalion, the Gemunu Watch, solemnly commemorated the 35th death anniversary of its founding father, the late Brigadier John F Halangode VSV, in a fitting ceremony organized by the Commanding Officer and all ranks of the Battalion under the guidance of Brigadier Hiran Halangode, son of the founding father of the Gemunu Watch.
The observance began on the evening of 15th November with a sacred Bana Sermon delivered by the chief priest of the Ellegama Temple, attended by retired officers and other ranks who previously served with the Battalion. The following morning, an alms-giving ceremony was conducted for the Maha Sanga.
Finally, the Battalion provides a generous donation to the Dhamma School of the Ellegama Temple, an institution that has maintained a long-standing relationship with the Battalion since its inception.
