The Gemunu Watch a highly regarded regiment in the Army, marked its 37th anniversary on March 19th at Regimental Headquarters in Kuruwita, Rathnapura. Commemorative programmes were started under the direction of Director General Infantry and Colonel of the Regiment the Gemunu Watch Major General W.B.J.K. Wimalaratne RWP RSP
Religious observances related to multi religions were held at Hindu temple, Jumma Mosque, and a Catholic church in Rathnapura. The Gemunu Watch members received blessings during ceremonies held from March 14th to 17th. Moreover an alms giving for the Maha Sanga were held at paradise hall premises On 18th March 2025. Thirty-seven members of the Maha Sanga were offered alms. During this important occasion, the Maha Sangha generously bestowed blessings to the entire Highlanders family. On evening hours another Religious observances was held at Sabaragamuwa Maha Saman Dewalaya.
On 19th March 2025 as the Chief Guest for the military segment of the arrangements began with a ceremonial 'Guard Turnout,' a traditional display showcasing the regiment’s discipline and pride, followed by a formal Parade With colours at the Parade Square, ceremonially acknowledging by Colonel of the Regiment
Then Colonel of the Regiment Major General Janaka Wimalaratne addressed officers and other ranks participated in the celebrations. At the climax of the event, all ranks interacted with a lunch at paradise hall premises with Colonel of the Regiment and Centre Commandant along with many senior officers and officers. On evening hours Highlanders War Heroes Commemoration Ceremony was held at the Regimental Centre monument, participation with the Colonel of the Regiment and senior officers. At the end of the day a Bodhi Puja Pinkama was held at regimental temple.
