GEMUNU WATCH HONORS MAJOR GENERAL K. P. P. KARUNANAYAKA AT FELICITATION CEREMONY

The Gemunu Watch Regiment proudly conducted a felicitation ceremony on 20 January 2026 to mark the promotion of Major General K. P. P. Karunanayaka, celebrating a significant milestone in his distinguished military career. The event reflected the rich traditions, discipline, and enduring camaraderie that define the Gemunu Watch.

The ceremony was held under the esteemed guidance of Major General A. M. A. Abeywardana, WWV, RWP, RSP, ndc, the Colonel of the Regiment and General Officer Commanding of the 58 Infantry Division,

Proceedings commenced with a warm and dignified welcome delivered by the Centre Commandant, who conveyed heartfelt congratulations to Major General Karunanayaka on behalf of all ranks of the regiment. This was followed by the traditional Guard Turnout, a proud display of regimental discipline, precision, and esprit de corps. The formal Guard of Honour at the Parade Square ceremonially acknowledged the promotion, symbolizing the high respect and confidence placed in the officer’s leadership and service.

In a solemn and moving moment, Major General K. P. P. Karunanayaka laid a floral tribute to the fallen heroes of the Gemunu Watch, paying homage to those who made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation. This act reflected the regiment’s deep respect for its legacy and its unwavering commitment to honouring those who came before.

The day’s events concluded with a special luncheon at the Officers’ Mess, attended by members of the Regimental Council, senior officers, staff officers, and commanding officers. The gathering provided an opportunity not only to celebrate the promotion of a senior officer but also to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood, unity, and shared purpose that lie at the heart of the Gemunu Watch.
