On 26 November 2024, the Regiment Centre of the Gemunu Watch held a farewell event honoring the outgoing Centre Commandant, Major General HCL Galappathti RSP USP. This significant occasion brought together officers and ranks from the Regimental Centre, including the Regimental Headquarter battalion and 8GW troops, to acknowledge Major General Galappathti’s impactful leadership.
In an inspiring address, Major General Galappathti expressed his deep appreciation for the contributions of all officers and soldiers throughout his tenure. He emphasized the importance of teamwork and collaboration in achieving the Centre's objectives, particularly in the maintenance and expedition of ongoing projects. His speech also reflected gratitude towards the Present Colonel of the Regiment and all ranks for their unwavering support during his time in command.
Following the formal address, The Deputy Centre Commandant, Colonel TMKC Amarakoon USP, welcomed Major General Galappathti to the All Ranks tea which was arranged at the swimming pool premises. This gathering provided an opportunity for camaraderie and reflection among officers and ranks, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose.
The celebration culminated in a farewell dinner held at the Officers’ Mess, where Major General Galappathti was presented with a special memento, symbolizing the deep respect and gratitude from the Deputy Centre Commandant behalf of the Colonel of the Regiment, and all officers. The event was attended by the Commanding Officers and staff of the Regimental Centre, embodying the spirit of fellowship within the regiment.
As Major General Galappathti embarks on his new appointment as General Officer Commanding of the 24 Infantry Division, all ranks extended their heartfelt thanks for his commitment, dedication, and exemplary service. They wished him a healthy, wealthy, peaceful, and prosperous future, affirming the profound impact he has had on the Regimental Centre The Gemunu Watch.
