The Seva Vanitha Branch of the Gemunu Watch (SVBGW) organized the commemorative ceremony - 2025 (Stage - II ) රණවිරු මා පිය වන්දනා - 2025 (අදියර II), to honour the parents of fallen war heroes. The event took place on 27 July 2025 at the Regimental Headquarters, The Gemunu Watch.
The event was held under the concept of Dr. (Mrs.) Dilrukshi Wimalaratne, The president of the SVBGW, with the guidance from Major General WBJK Wimalaratne RWP RSP the Director General Infantry and The Colonel of the Regiment of the Gemunu Watch.
The aim of the programme was to strengthen the bond between the Gemunu Watch and the parents of fallen war heroes, and to express the heartfelt nation’s deep gratitude for their brave and beloved sons’ sacrifice.
The ceremony commenced with Dhamma Sermon at the RHQGW temple, followed by a floral tribute at the war heroes’ monument within the Regimental Headquarters premises. A formal commemorative ceremony was held at the paradise hall of the Regimental Headquarters – The Gemunu Watch, The ceremony commenced with special speech delivered by the guest speaker Lieutenant Colonel Sujith Chaminda Edirisinghe, which emphasized the invaluable sacrifice made by the parents of fallen war heroes. Following the speech Dr. (Mrs.) Dilrukshi Wimalaratne, the president of the SVBGW presented a token of appreciation to the guest speaker.
Highlighting the Regiments’ continued commitment to the welfare of its members, Major General WBJK Wimalaratne RWP RSP presented a wheel chair to S/408081 L/Cpl Sarath UG, who was disabled while representing the regimental sport team.
A heart touching video tribute was shown during the ceremony to remember the bravery of the fallen heroes. Afterwards, special mementos were presented by Dr. (Mrs.) Dilrukshi Wimlaratne, the president of the SVBGW and members of the SVBGW.
A Help Desk Session was also held to listen to the parents’ concerns and offer support. This session was fully supported by Dr. (Mrs.) Dilrukshi Wimlaratne, the president of the SVBGW and the SVBGW team.
Many respected guests attended the event, including Dr. (Mrs.) Dilrukshi Wimalartne, The president of the SVBGW, members of the SVBGW, Major General WBJK Wimalaratne RWP RSP the Director General Infantry and the Colonel of the Regiment of the Gemunu Watch, Brigadier KMN Dikkumbura RSP, the Centre Commandant – RHQGW, along with senior officers, officers, and other ranks of the Gemunu Watch.
This touching event was a heartfelt tribute to the parents of our nations’ brave sons, who gave their lives for the country.
