The SevaVanitha Branch of the Gemunu Watch (SVBGW) organized a special commemorative ceremony, "රණවිරුමාපියවන්දනා - 2025", to honour the parents of fallen war heroes. The event took place on 14 and 15 June 2025 in the sacred city of Anuradhapura. It was held under the concept of Dr. (Mrs.) DilrukshiWimalaratne, President of SVBGW, with full guidance from Major General WBJK Wimalaratne RWP RSP, Director General Infantry and Colonel of the Regiment of the Gemunu Watch.
The aim of the programme was to strengthen the bond between the Gemunu Watch and the parents of fallen heroes, and to express the nation's deep gratitude for their sons’ brave sacrifice.
On the first day, parents joined a pilgrimage to the Sri MahaBodhiya and later attended a Dharma sermon at the RuwanweliMaha Seya. On the second day, a formal commemorative ceremony was held at the conference hall of the Gajaba Regiment Headquarters, followed by visits to Thuparamaya and Jethawanaramaya. This spiritual journey gave the parents a meaningful way to remember and honour their beloved sons.
A touching video tribute was shown during the ceremony to remember the bravery of the fallen heroes. Afterwards, special mementos were presented to the parents by Dr. (Mrs.) DilrukshiWimalaratne, members of the SVBGW, and Major General PCL Gunawardena (Retd) RWP RSP psc and Mrs. AthulaGunawardena.
A Help Desk session was also held to listen to the parents’ concerns and offer support. This session was fully supported by Dr. (Mrs.) DilrukshiWimalaratne and the SVBGW team.
Many respected guests attended the event, including Dr. (Mrs.) DilrukshiWimalaratne, Major General WBJK Wimalaratne, Brigadier KMN Dikkumbura RSP (Centre Commandant – RHQGW), members of SVBGW, senior officers, officers, and soldiers of the Gemunu Watch.
This touching event was a heartfelt tribute to the parents of our nation’s brave sons, who gave their lives for the country.
