The Commanding Officers' Conference of the Gemunu Watch for the year 2025 was successfully held on 20 November 2025 at the Regimental Centre, Gemunu Watch, Kuruwita. The conference was presided over by the Colonel of the Regiment, Major General AMA Abeywardana WWV RWP RSP ndc, and attended by all Commanding Officers and Staff Officers of the Regiment.
The Commanding Officers’ Conference commenced with the inaugural address delivered by the Colonel of the Regiment, marking his first Commanding Officers’ conference after assuming office. He expressed his vision for all officers and outlined the key priorities that will guide his tenure.
The Colonel of the Regiment emphasized the professionalism of officers and other ranks, career progression, administration, accounts management, welfare, and discipline as his core focus areas. He reminded Commanding officers that while infrastructure development is notable, the accurate measure of success lies in developing human resources, creating training opportunities, and securing key appointments for officers and soldiers.
Reaffirming the Regiment’s proud legacy, he called for a shared sense of duty, integrity, foresight, and proper management of all aspects of battalion life. He stressed that professionalism must be reflected in both competence and attitude, urging Commanding officers to foster initiative, continuous learning, and mutual respect across ranks. Training and operational readiness, he noted, will remain central in maintaining the Regiment’s standard of excellence.

Moreover, the Colonel of the Regiment highlighted officers’ career progression as essential for the Regiment’s future, calling on Commanding officers to ensure fair evaluations, timely recommendations, and dedicated mentoring to develop capable leaders.
Emphasizing that discipline underpins military success, he called on officers to set a good example and uphold high standards at all times. Regarding the recent incident, he highlighted the importance of clear oversight, effective guidance, and fostering strong bonds between senior and junior personnel. Additionally, he clearly instructed Commanding Officers to monitor and avoid irresponsible social media activity that could damage the battalion's reputation.
Calling for unity, cooperation, and professionalism among officers, he instructed Commanding Officers to develop comprehensive Master Plans to improve battalion functioning and long-term development.
Furthermore, the Colonel of the Regiment addressed a wide array of operational, administrative, and logistical matters during the conference. These deliberations focused on identifying genuine needs across battalions and formulating practical, forward-looking solutions to enhance overall regimental efficiency.
