COMMANDOS BID FAREWELL TO RETIRING BRIGADIER D N J FERNANDO RSP USP

Brigadier D N J Fernando RSP USP retired from active service on 21 Jan 2022. He was welcomed by Brigadier B M S K K Dharmawardena RWP RSP USP the Centre Commandant Commando Regimental Centre and accorded a ceremonial guard turnout at the entrance of the Commando Regimental Centre Gateway. Then offered a floral tribute to fallen Commandos at the Commando Regiment War Memorial.

Afterwards, he appeared for a group photograph with all Officers and followed by tree planting event beside the Commando Regiment old memorial statue in memory of his retirement.

Thereafter, Brigadier D N J Fernando (Retd) RSP USP addressed officers and a cross section of other ranks of the regiment. In his speech he remembered all the momentous events starting from the enlistment to the Army and subsequently he stressed on war experiences, the value of Commandos to the nation and ways to uphold the good name of Commandos.

As the next event of the programme an interaction session was arranged at the Officers’ mess with the participation of all Officers. During the interaction session he extended his gratitude to Colonel of the Regiment, all Commanding Officers, Colleagues and young Officers who assisted him in his role of duty over 31 years in Sri Lanka Army.

At the end of the event retiring brigadier was greeted by all Commandos with a street line up to the main entrance where he presented his last salute to the Commando Regiment. Comd Cdo Bde Brigadier V M N Hettiarachchi RWP RSP and council members also participated for the event.
