ASL DELEGATION ADVANCES HADR COOPERATION AT THE ASIAN DISASTER PREPAREDNESS CENTRE, THAILAND
The delegation from the ASL visited the Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre (ADPC) as part of its overseas study tour in Thailand. The ADPC is an autonomous intergovernmental organisation mandated to build institutional and community resilience against disasters and climate change impacts across the Asia-Pacific Region. Established in 1986, initially as a collaborative project under the Asian Institute of Technology AIT, the ADPC was founded to address the acute vulnerability of regional nations to devastating natural hazards.
Upon the arrival at ADPC, the delegation was warmly received by the Director, Mr. Sisira Madurapperuma and senior officials of the ADPC. The visit commenced with an introductory briefing, followed by a series of presentations detailing the ADPC's core functions, strategic objectives and future operational plans. Key topics included emergency preparedness, the Sri Lankan Preparedness Partnership and the ADPC’s humanitarian assistance and disaster relief HADR contributions during Cyclone “Ditva” in Sri Lanka. A subsequent interactive question and answer session enabled the delegation to engage in productive professional discourse with the subject matter experts.
The visit concluded with an exchange of plaques as tokens of appreciation, recognizing the ADPC’s courtesy and its contribution to the delegation's training objectives. The programme served as an invaluable learning experience, enhancing the delegation's understanding of disaster preparedness and emergency management frameworks.
